Femi Kuti Celebrates His 54th Birthday Today


Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti (conceived 16 June 1962), famously known as Femi Kuti, is a Nigerian artist conceived in London and brought up in Lagos. He is the eldest child of afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. what's more, a grandchild of a political campaigner, ladies' rights dissident and customary noble Funmilayo Ransome Kuti.

Femi's musical vocation began when he started playing in his dad's band, Egypt 80. In 1986, Femi began his own band, Positive Force, and started setting up himself as a craftsman autonomous of his dad's gigantic legacy.


His first record was discharged in 1995 by Tabu/Motown, took after four years by Shoki (MCA), which accumulated boundless basic recognition. In 2001 he worked together with Common, Mos Def and Jaguar Wright on Fight to Win, a push to traverse to a standard group of onlookers, and began visiting the United States with Jane's Addiction. In 2004 he opened The Shrine, his club, where he recorded the live collection Africa Shrine. Following a 4-year nonattendance because of individual difficulties, he re-rose in 2008 with Day by Day and Africa for Africa in 2010, for which he got two Grammy designations. In 2012 he was both accepted into the Headies Hall of Fame (the most prestigious music honors in Nigeria), was the opening follow up on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' European stadium visit and turned into an Ambassador for Amnesty International. He keeps on extending the assorted qualities of his creativity on his new collection (2013) No Place for My Dream. Femi Kuti was a judge on Nigeria's gigantic TV show Nigerian Idol Season.
